What’s included in a commercial catering gas safety certificate?

Each and every food service business needs to have a in date Gas Safe certification. This is to prove that their gas equipment is being maintained to safe standards. There is even a gas safety law which states that a gas inspection needs to be carried out once a year to make sure your equipment is up to regulation.

So what actually in a gas safety test?

The reason for a gas safety test is to check whether all your equipment is working to a safe standard, so they all need to be tested in different ways. Items such as carbon monoxide and smoke detectors will be tested. As well as in depth examinations of overhead extraction fans, pipework and gas interlock systems to name a few.

If there are any issues, the gas safety commercial catering engineer will be able to flag that up. And in certain situations they will actually be able to rectify the issues. Otherwise they’ll be able to advise what needs to be done to help fix the issues.

If the issues that are raised are too big to be repaired or dealt with on the day, it is a big possibility that the specific piece of equipment will need to be completely replaced. Once it has been replaced then the Gas Safe engineer will come back out to re-test.
